E-cigarettes, pods, and disposable vapes contain batteries, electronic components, and various plastics. These components do not belong in household waste. Vapers are responsible for proper disposal. On this page, you'll find specific instructions for the correct disposal of vapes, pods, batteries, and e-liquids—as well as practical tips on how to vape more sustainably.
How do you dispose of vapes properly?
Disposable vapes with integrated battery
Disposable e-cigarettes contain lithium-ion batteries and are therefore classified as waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) under the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).
Important:
- Do not dispose of in household waste.
- Do not place in the recycling bin.
- Do not open or damage.
Proper disposal:
- Take to municipal recycling centers.
- Take to official electronic waste collection points.
- Free take-back at retailers in accordance with legal regulations.

Pod systems & rechargeable e-cigarettes
Rechargeable vape devices consist of a battery, electronics, and replaceable pods or tanks.
- Devices themselves → Waste electrical and electronic equipment
- Removable batteries → Separate battery collection point
Do not damage or dispose of in household waste
Due to their longer lifespan, significantly less electronic waste is generated compared to disposable products.
Empty Pods & Cartridges
Pods are often made of mixed materials such as plastic, metal, and residual vapor.
- Empty completely before disposal.
- Do not place in the recycling bin if electronic waste is present.
- Small quantities can be disposed of with regular household waste if it cannot be separated.
Please do not pour any remaining liquid down the drain.
Dispose of liquids and nicotine residue
Nicotine and flavorings must not enter waterways.
- Small, sealed leftover quantities → household waste
- Larger quantities → hazardous waste collection point
- Dispose of bottles separately according to material (glass/plastic).

Sustainability doesn't mean going without, but rather using things consciously.

1. Choose reusable instead of disposable
Rechargeable e-cigarettes with replaceable pods significantly reduce electronic waste. A device can be used for months instead of being thrown away after a short time.
2. Use devices completely
Pods and disposable devices should only be disposed of when they are completely used up. Replacing them prematurely unnecessarily increases the amount of waste.
3. Treat batteries with care
- Avoid deep discharge
- Do not open or tamper with them
- Protect them from heat
